Note: Distribution via the Internet is possible. Above distribution rules still apply. Contact moderators for details.
Restrictions:
Permission is required for Non-FidoNet boards and Networks to connect and/or distribute.
Permission is required to gate Japan_Link outside of your own Region. Distribution within your region should be done in co-operation with your REC (Regional Echo Coordinator).
Zone 6 boards (other than Region 63) are not part of the Japan_Link distribution area. Zone 6 access to Japan is covered by East-Asia-Link, which also originates from Japan.
General:
A brief message announcing your presence would be appreciated. This will enable us to update our node maps by observing PATH and SEEN-BY information.
Notes on Japanese messages:
1) DOUBLE-BYTE CHARACTERS - Please set this area up *NOT* to strip high bits. This is necessary to allow Japanese double-byte characters to pass through uncorrupted. Depending on your software, enabling is done by selecting "allow soft carriage returns" or "do not strip high bits" in your area manager and BBS software.
2) OFFLINE MAILERS - Currently, the only off-line mail systems that seem to work properly are those that use the BlueWave mail door. Readers that have been tested are BlueWave, WaveRider and Alice. QWK mail systems are not particularly suitable for Japanese messages because they tamper with high bits. If you know of others, please inform the moderators and this document will be updated.
3) Other than Notes 1 and 2, above, there should be no problems related to the setup of Japan_Link. Without special software to display Japanese characters, you yourself will not be able to view messages in Japanese characters. Your BBS members who have Japanese display systems will, nonetheless, be able to view these messages properly.
